In 2019, Global Plant Genetics was proudly appointed International Master licence Holder for the new Strawberry genetics from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis).

The strawberry breeding programme has an international reputation with a long history and proven track record in both short-day and day-neutral types.

In this first round of new strawberry varieties, we have UCD Victor and UCD Warrior, both short-day strawberry varieties. In the day-neutral category, UCD Royal Royce, UCD Valiant and UCD Moxie are looking outstanding. Each one of these five varieties is offering significant improvements over previous cultivars.

Global Plant Genetics manages the Intellectual Property of these new strawberry varieties in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, South America and Australia, where many of the world’s leading nurseries are bringing them to market.

These new modern day strawberry varieties demonstrate a clear improvement in production, flavour, disease resistance and shelf-life covering all aspects of the requirements growers, marketers, retailers and consumers are looking for in a modern strawberry.

More detailed information on the UC Davis strawberry varieties can be found in the variety specific brochures on this website.

Beyond this, the future of the strawberry breeding programme at UC Davis looks outstanding with some of the world's best plant breeders employed. They have the wonderful University facilities at their disposal along with an excellent team of PhD students and an extensive gene pool, all using the most modern scientific techniques in the world of strawberry breeding.
